WHO ARE YOU?

I'm Rosie Drake-Knight!

WHAT DO YOU MAKE?

I design, print and stitch leather luggage for fellow advocates of modern craft, whose loyalties lie within quality workmanship and traceability.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR WORKSPACE.

I work from my home workshop. I’m lucky enough to live in a victorian terrace so there is plenty of lofty space for me to spread out. I have an industrial machine in my workspace downstairs, and my print table, cutting table and postal space is upstairs. It’s super light and bright and the convenience of working from home is ace.

TELL US ABOUT WHERE PEOPLE CAN FIND YOUR PRODUCTS?

You can find me via my online shop rosiedrake-knight.com and on instagram.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

I’m based in South Devon, England. I live on the coast and its a beautiful part of the world.

WHAT HAS BEEN MAKING YOU EXCITED LATELY?

I’m pregnant! So mainly baby related stuff. I’ve recently got back into knitting so i’ve been going wild on the baby sized knitwear (its much quicker than knitting for a fully grown human!) I’m also super passionate about sustainable design and ethical production, so I’m always excited about new discoveries in ethical fashion.

meet linda of canopy verde

WHO ARE YOU? TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!

I’m Linda, a bag-loving entrepreneur who wanted to create something classic and eco friendly. I love simplicity and clean design. Canopy Verde was inspired by my love of mid-century Danish design.

WHAT DO YOU MAKE?

Minimalist wallets, handbags, backpacks, and weekenders.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED AS MAKER?

I used to work at Fila (the Italian sportswear company) managing their accessories category, which included everything from bags to socks to wristbands. There I learned the entire process of making something, from initial concept to prototype to final product. One of my colleagues there became my production partner and ten years later we’re still working together.

WHAT MAKES YOUR PRODUCTS THE BEST?

Canopy Verde bags combine form and functionality, plus they are eco and vegan. We don’t make trendy styles with a lot of bling – our bags are classic and designed to last.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR WORKSPACE.

Everything takes place in my apartment – I design at my computer that overlooks the backyard, my inventory is stored in the basement, and I keep packing supplies under my kids’ beds!

Occasional pop up shops at West Elm in New York

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

Both Canada and Taiwan, which I know sounds confusing! I was born in Canada, but my whole family moved to Taiwan when I was a baby. And now I’d call myself a New Yorker because I’ve been living here since the late 90’s.

WHAT HAS BEEN MAKING YOU EXCITED LATELY?

The fact that the shortest day of the year has passed and from this point on, each day will be getting longer!!!

IF YOU COULD LEARN A NEW SKILL, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Driving. I never learned it because the legal driving age in Taiwan is 18 and I left for college at 17.

COFFEE OR TEA?

Coffee

ARE YOU A MORNING PERSON OR A NIGHT OWL?

Neither! I can’t stay up late but I also don’t love getting up too early.

WHAT DO YOU WATCH OR LISTEN TO IN THE BACKGROUND WHEN YOU ARE MAKING?

Brazilian jazz

SHARE 5 FUN FACTS ABOUT YOURSELF.

- I have a serious weakness for French bulldogs.

- I also have a serious weakness for baked goods that have come straight out of the oven.

- I’m a boot camp enthusiast.

- I’m a total scaredy cat when it comes to gore or violence in movies – I cannot watch anything rated higher than PG13

- I got married in the Vancouver Aquarium next to sea otters and beluga whales.
